DODA is a studio founded in 2009 by David-Olivier Descombes. Inspired by both the effervescence of decorative arts and architecture’s rigor, DODA develops its practice within that broad spectrum, with a sensitive human-centered approach. Working with the apparent dichotomies between creative sparkle and working site precision, between locally grounded and expansive, between dreams and reality, constitutes the architect’s craft for DODA. Bred by post-modernism and its questioning of functionalism, DODA is free-spitired and versatile. The studio aims for a co-designing practice with its clients, where keywords are collaboration and transparency. This approach defines the aesthetics, materiality and function of DODA’s projects. DODA gathers a skillful team of architects, interior designers and project managers around David-Olivier Descombes, who was joined by his partner Elise Charpenet in 2017.
DODA’s team enables to offer thorough answers to each project’s specifics, from contextual scale to furniture design, from sketch to completion. Based in Normandy and in Paris, the studio fuels from being both grounded and open to the world and develops nationwide and abroad. DODA helps its hospitality clients create urban and vibrant hotspots, such as Bouillon Pigalle, which set a new standard for traditional Parisian bouillons, Tripletta’s trendy pizzerias, Kozy’s brunch joints or Atelier des Grands Cèdres in Central France. The Studio develops currently hotels within a castle in Dordogne, an estate on the French Riviera and over Arcachon Bay. For Entrepreneurs or Asset Managers, DODA designs offices and stores fitting the latest social trends and its users’ needs and aspirations. In Paris, the studio is completing offices for a movie producer, law and notaries firms, custom-made open offices, coworking spaces or independent boutiques.
Across France, DODA develops a wide range of residential projects, from apartment buildings to detached houses, creating new construction or working on renovations. From Normandy, in Perche or in Deauville, but also on the Atlantic Coast or the Alps, DODA builds, renovates and transforms castles, manor houses, estates and contemporary houses for private individuals. In Paris, the studio has completed several complex transformations and extensions within Haussmann fabric, et refurbishes apartments and townhouses. DODA broadens its realm and wishes to extend its possibilities by reflecting on public buildings, cultural institutions, scenography or furniture design. The studio is thereby developing its first healthcare building in Normandy. .
